Anorexia is an eating disorder where people starve themselves. It often begins in young people for various reasons and those suffering from anorexia undergo extreme weight loss reaching body weights of as low as 20% below their ideal weight, at times even lower.
Although an individual suffering from anorexia may be extremely underweight, he or she is convinced that he or she needs to lose even more weight. The most common ways to lose weight which are adopted by individuals suffering from anorexia include excessive exercise, intake of laxatives and not eating.
Anorexia is commonly triggered by an unwarranted fear (phobia) of being overweight which may transmit an undesired image of the individual suffering from anorexia to others members of the society. An individual who suffers from anorexia comes to actually see himself or herself in need to lose weight even when his or her body is clearly underweight. This distorted perception is normally related to the deeper root causes which may have caused the individual to engage in this behaviour.
A traditional psychology approach may fail simply because of the fact that the individual suffering from anorexia has the belief of not being too thin and of being in complete control. This distorted view of the reality is not an act that the individual is putting up, nor is it a way of convincing him or herself. The individual suffering from anorexia is already convinced that these beliefs are facts.
Using Neuro Linguistic Programming we change that belief to one that more reflects the truth, remove the mind conflict which is generating the unhealthy behaviour and "re-program" the mind to actually desire the change as opposed to having to change.
We then use hypnosis to establish new behaviours and attitudes toward food, toward the body and establish a more realistic perception of the attractiveness of the body.
Depending on the individual circumstances, we are able to make a radical and permanent change in 3 sessions or less.
